Sr. Cortes

Hernan Cortes

A commissioned illustration that I just had so much fun doing that I had to post it somewhere.  :D

If you guys are curious, you can check out the project it's for here at the Badass Kickstarter.  I'm super excited!

Another Spider?

What started out as a simple sketch sort of got out of hand and transcended into a full on illustration.  It was fun trying to get the webs to look like webs without them looking too realistic.  My little boy kept asking about the spider and if he could go to where "...the lady..." is so he can see the rest of her "house".  If I managed to get him to wonder about the rest of her place, then mission accomplished.  hehehe.

CARTOON CARTOON!

Have you ever done a series of drawing that you said to yourself, "whenever I get the time, I will finish these and make them look all pretty."?  Well, for me, that time is now!  Several years ago, I had a Character Design class where the professor had us assimilate the styles of other artists like Phil Bourassa, Sean "Cheeks" Galloway, and Steven Silver (just to name a few), to help us better understand the simplicity of "drawing for animation" and he had us draw a lot...I mean... A LOT.  Here, I shall post all the drawings, sketches and rendered.

Here are a couple to start with:

More on the way, I have to change them up to JPEGS first... and, like previously mentioned, there are a lot.

Isometrics!?!

So, for the first time, I have made an "isometric" perspective piece here.  It was a headache not because of the extreme complexity that is this perspective but because of my OCD.  I had to keep changing certain items just to keep it isometric. lol.  Fun stuff right there.

A Change of Pace

I need a break from the daily grind so I decided to do a mini project in which I take a regular park bench/lamp and change the setting just to see what I can come up with.

Aries Temple Plan

Final "House" design

Here's a 3/4 view of the outer temple.  I plan on shading it soon and doing an interior of it as well.

Basic Plan for the temple and where stuff goes.  I decided to try my hand at designing architecture with the classical Golden Ratio mainly because of the setting.  These temple are found in Greece so it would only make sense to use classic Greek design methods.  :D

Gold Saint: Aries

Left: Complete Armor  -  Right: Combat ready

Man, I had no idea what I was getting into when I thought of this project.  Trying to have the armor believable but still iconic and some-what loyal to it's original anime design was a huge headache that, I can honestly say, I did not see coming.

On the bright side, I learned quite a lot from this first character so then later ones will be a breeze in comparison!  :D

Nameless Aries Saint: Clothes and Body

Body Type and Clothing

Looks like he's a Speedo's kind of guy...

I wanted to explore the possibility of placing this man not in some fantasy/mystic realm but somewhere in the real world and I figured Tibet would be the closest place to this guys' race's origins.  I could have gone super ornate and detailed on the clothing but he's a humble man who's given up everything of luxury in hopes of rediscovering himself.
